Our Software team attended The EuroPython Conference in The Convention Centre, Dublin on 11th and 12th of July on behalf of the Technical team in FRS Recruitment. This day exceeded any expectations that I originally had about the conference as it has been one of the best days I have ever had in recruitment since starting my own personal journey. I started my recruitment adventure during the pandemic and during that time when people talked about events. It seemed like something I would never get the opportunity to do. As the world was changing and people no longer wanted to meet in person - everything moved more virtually.

When I got asked to go to this event it was an easy ‘yes’ because there is so much that you can gain from these kinds of events. We decided to go for 2 days and when I first arrived, I did not know what to expect. We did some research on some of the companies that had partnered at the event and decided to split up and speak to as many people as we could. First thing first we got a quick coffee and listened in on an amazing speaker Julien Jerphanion who discussed the pros and cons of Python. Julien made it simple for people who are not developers but wanted to learn about the industry. This was extremely beneficial because it makes it easier for me to communicate with Software Developers when I have more of an understanding about how the tech is used.

Shortly, after the first talk we went back down to the ‘form’ where all the stands were. We had our companies we wished to speak to based off previous conversations and wanting to learn more about the market. I took the approach of speaking to as many people as possible to ask them about what the company did and how they are finding the market. I spoke to people from small Irish tech start-ups to large American Multi-Nationals and swapped industry knowledge & helpful advice. With the experience I had in recruitment and I was able to speak to any company about anything within the technical space. In such a short period of time I was able to build relationships with people who we will stay in contact with going forward. This is a fantastic way to meet people within the space that I love - as people actually get to communicate & learn from each other. The cross collaboration was evident throughout the whole event with companies and consumers chatting back & forth about Python and their passion. The vibe was excellent and the crew at EuroPython did a fantastic job.

Overall, this event is something that I would recommend to anyone that is in the Python or tech space. As massive part of our role is to network and there is no better way of networking than in a place where people all have a common purpose and are passionate about what they do.
